Great player. I was at Berklee the same time Antonio was. He was finishing up his last year or two and I was just starting around '95. He played at a Joe Morello tribute along with two other students and Danny Gottlieb. He was on top of alot of stuff that night. He was more of a "chops" kind of player back then. He had a good time feel in all the styles especially cuban music. He was like a cross between Dennis and El Negro Hernandez. Good double bass chops as well. He pretty much put the smackdown on everyone that night.

I've heard that record as well as the Danilo Perez one with Brian Blade. He's definitely improved in all areas but with more touch and sensitivity. He's toned down the "chops" and has become more of a pro.

    Peace

Last night on TV, I had the wonderful pleasure to discover a new (to me) Top Major League Drummer.

Yeah, the new Pat Metheny band was on. I only caught the last 4 tunes and it HIT me hard. Outstanding maturity playing Metheny's tunes, this guy's studied deep. When I saw/heard that guy, I said to myself, WOW ANOTHER ONE!!!

Remember this guy folks, Antonio Sanchez.

My words won't do Antonio justice. I better let Pat Metheny speak instead...

Just got the latest Grammy winner CD by Pat Metheny titled "Speaking of now" and....

Go and get it now!! Definitely deserving that Grammy!!

The CD shows Antonio to be a definite class "A" player. Fits right into Metheny's style. Richly seasoned ideas, great ears... WOW!!!

    You be the judge...
